Jack lazily rose form his sleep and made his way to the front of the bus where he descended the steps and started for home The bus could drop me in front of my house, but no, that would be convienient he thought. He'd had a particularly boring day at school and was anxious to get home.
He tried in vain to to open the door to his house. Locked. Mum's asleep again He pounded on the door and hoped it would wake his mother.
"Sorry Roger, I was asleep." she said
"I'm Jack mum. Roger's in college back in Ireand." Where I should be
"Ooohh sorry honey. I'm still a bit tired." she said as she let him pass inside.
After the usual rituals of getting a drink, taking off his boots, and assuring his mother that he didn't have much homework, she went back to sleep and he sat down at the computer.
He was surprised to find that it was off since his father never shut it down before going to work. He silently cursed because the damn thing always took so long to boot up and turned it on. To Jack's surprise, the computer sprung to life rather quickly.
"Huh, maybe Simon finally fixed the old junker." He smiled and leaned back in the chair until the screen flickered. "Hmm?" He leaned closer as it flickered again and finally went blank, but not before giving ff a strong static discharge, blowing Jack backwards against his chair. "Damnit!" He pounded his fist on the desk only to see the screen flicker to life again, this time featuring scrolling binary code.
Jack watched intently, transfixed by the odd turn of events as fog seeped out of the machine and swirled all around. Confusion and curiousity grew within him as Jack touched the machine to see if it was overheating. It didn't feel hot.
This mist vanished as quickly as it had come and the computer screen returned to normal. Jack tried to smooth his long hair, now sticking up from the electricity and noticed something on the desk.
He reached out to pick it up and examine it, taking note of the screen, grips, and familiar shape. A digivice? I thought I sold my digimon virtual pet years ago. Suddenly he detected movement out of the corner of his eye and sharply turned his head to see a purple blob with long floppy ears and red eyes bouncing up and down.
It took Jack a moment to realize what the thing was. He was still in shock, yet knew he'd seen the creature before. "Pagumon?" he wondered out loud and the creature bounced up towards him. He caught it and looked at the digivice on the desk. "This can't be."
